European Parliament: cloned meat has to be waved aside

30 October 2015

A vast majority of the European Parliament has spoken in favour of the ban on meat and other products from cloned animals and their offspring.

By far most cloned animals are born dead and only a minimal percentage makes it to the first year of their lives, weighed down by illnesses and deviations. Cloning causes unacceptable animal suffering,” said Member of the European Parliament Anja Hazekamp.

Hazekamp further points out that also citizens in Europe don’t want meat from cloned animals on their plate. “According to a survey among European citizens 77 percent doesn’t want cloned meat. Citizens don’t want it, farmers don’t need it and the animals pay the price. A total ban on products from cloned animals and their offspring is the only right solution,” said Hazekamp.
