EU elections: more than 1,5 million votes for the animals!
During the European elections of June 2024, the six parties of Animal Politics EU together received 1.527.564 votes. Both the Dutch Partij voor de Dieren and the German Partei Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz won a seat and will respectively be represented by Anja Hazekamp and Sebastian Everding. We are very thankful for everyone who voted for the billions of voiceless animals all over Europe. We’re ready to keep on fighting for animals and nature from within the EU!
We
could not have achieved this result without the heartwarming support
of our representatives, candidates, staff, volunteers, and everyone
who contributed to the campaign. A big thank you to all of you!
A closer look at the results
The Partij voor de Dieren received 281.462 votes (4,5%). That’s almost 60,000 votes more than in the previous European elections of 2019! The Partei Mensch Umwelt Tierschutz - or Tierschutzpartei for short - received 570.498 votes (1,4%), almost 30,000 more than in 2019. Both Hazekamp and Everding are part of the Nordic Green Left, which is part of The Left in the European Parliament.
The
French Parti Animaliste
received almost 500,000 votes, but due to a particularly high
electoral threshold of 5% they did not win a seat. Nor did the
Portuguese PAN, Animal Party Cyprus and the Spanish PACMA.
Considering the European mass investments in the animal industry and
the huge challenges of our times, another seat would have been very
helpful. But this is only the beginning!
Our compassionate movement
As Animal Politics EU we will continue to represent animals from the heart of our democracy. Together with a growing international movement of citizens, sister parties and other organisations, we want to transform our society into a kinder, more ethical place for all living beings. We are influencing policies to ensure that the billions of animals in Europe are represented. In times when the far-right is bigger than ever in the European Union, our compassionate sound is essential. We demand a thriving future for everyone.
The
animals are counting on us.
