Australian Animal Justice Party candidate: “Let’s give real hope to our farmers”
On November 24th , elections will be held for the Parliament of the Australian state Victoria. The Animal Justice Party (AJP) hopes to win a seat and has presented 60 candidates. One of them is Dr Tamasin Ramsay, a medical anthropologist, and she has an important message for Australians.
Dr Tamasin Ramsay, candidate for the AJP
Ramsay is on a mission to bring positive change, which will benefit everyone of all species and political and apolitical persuasions. Recently, she made an urgent appeal to Australians and the Australian government:
“There is no kind way to send huge numbers of individuals overseas by boat to be killed. The excuse of economic necessity is a hollow one: Three independent economic reports inform us that the impact of shutting down live export would be negligible. The impact would be felt by the industries, not by farmers. On the contrary, shutting this cruel and unreformable industry would open up pathways to regenerative forms of farming that could benefit farmers and our environment and the health of people.
Earlier this year in The Hague, there was a convention of animal political parties from 22 different countries. Throughout the convention, Australia was repeatedly spoken of as a standard of animal welfare to avoid, due primarily to live export. Some say: But if we don’t do it, others will do it worse than us. That is an absurd reason to continue the industry. When has being bad, but the other guy being worse, ever been a reason to justify doing something bad?
Let’s stop live export and invest in agricultural industries that offer better jobs, regenerate our land and give real hope to our farmers. If we have to trade, let’s trade in something, not someone.”
